With millions of Syrians in Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey in urgent need of assistance, ERDO welcomes an extension to the Canadian government’s Syria Emergency Relief Fund.
The extension, which now runs until February 29, was announced today in Ottawa by the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie.
For every eligible dollar donated by individual Canadians to registered Canadian charities in response to the conflict in Syria, the government will continue to set aside one dollar—up to a total of $100 million—to the Fund.

The ERDO team is saddened to share the sudden passing of Bill Pharand. ERDO’s ChildCARE Plus (CCP) program in Guinea is overseen by Bill's wife, PAOC Global Worker Beverley Pharand. The CCP sponsorship program which was started by the Pharands in Guinea in 1999 includes over 100 children in both the English and French speaking communities. Bill and Bev have been instrumental in establishing 12 Christian schools (2 English and 10 French) which have been recognized by the Guinean government as having superior academic standards. They have also partnered with ERDO in projects over the years such as emergency food response for refugees, building and oversight of medical clinics, livestock and poultry projects and have stewarded the creation of borewells which have provided clean water for churches, schools and communities. We remember them in prayer and rejoice in the legacy they have left for children and their families.

This week, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs), Diane Ablonczy, visited the William Cornelius Vocational Training Centre (WCTVC) in Guatemala. The WCVTC is a 50,000 square foot high school/technical school that provides young Guatemalans with a first-class vocational training experience. The Centre was established in 2007 and is supported by the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada (PAOC) and Emergency Relief and Development Overseas (ERDO). Students at the school are financially supported to attend the school through sponsorship facilitated by ChildCARE Plus, ERDO’s sponsorship program.
According to Edna Estrada, the Principal of the WCVTC staff, the Minister was very impressed with the school and the impact of the Canadian investment there. On Minister Abolonczy’s tour of the school she saw all of the class rooms and laboratories. She spoke with both current students and graduates from the last four years of the WCVTC. The Minister also acknowledged the importance of the work done by PAOC workers Al and Pauline Slater who helped found the school and spent many years in Guatemala.
We encourage you to read more about the WCVTC

ERDO, as one of 10 members of CCA (Canadian Churches of Action) participated in a joint project to assist those affected in three of the hardest hit provinces: Surigao del Sur, Compostela Valley, and Davao Oriental.
Through this joint project ERDO provided funding to assist with repair and construction of shelter, personal hygiene kits and bottled water as well as provision of food items such as rice.
