ERDO ChildCARE Plus in the Philippines

ChildCARE Plus in the Philippines

Under the leadership of PAOC Global Worker Linda Veldhuizen, ERDO is reaching over 220 children through ChildCARE Plus.  Some of the children in this particular CCP program have developmental difficulties and require a safe place like the Noah's Ark Children's home to give them the extra support they need for healthy development.

Through a $37 a month donation, a child can attend school, have access to nutritious food and healthcare and be spiritually nurtured by our on-the-ground ChildCARE Plus community representatives.

On October 15, 2013 a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the province of Bohol in the Central Vizayas, Philippines. The eathquake has destroyed over 10,000 homes and damaged over 35,000 others. There were 22,113 families staying in 96 evacuation centres.

Working with three churches in the areas near three of the evacuation centres ERDO provided emergency food, water and medicines helping 1,200 families feeding approximately 4,800 people.

In December 2011 ERDO worked through Canadian Churches in Action, and our on-the ground Global Worker, Marilyn Curtis, to respond to children and their families affected by massive floods in the Philippines.

Typhoon Washi, known locally as Sendong, wreaked havoc in the Philippines in December 2011, battering the coast around Cagayan de Oro, Iligan and Bukidnon.

ERDO's response to help victims of the typhoon included clean drinking water, anti malarial drugs, tarpaulins and blankets. Our response working through Marilyn Curtis helped bring relief to 1,000 people.

In times of emergency, relief supplies can include things like:

  • locally accessed and appropriate food relief
  • child safety
  • water
  • shelter
  • sanitation
  • household needs
  • livelihood protection
