Senegalese Selected Statistics

  • Infant mortality: 51.5 deaths/1,000 live births
  • Physician density: 0.06 physicians/1,000 population
  • Major infectious diseases: hepatitis A, typhoid fever, dengue fever, malaria, yellow fever, meningitis, food & water-bourne diseases
  • 16% of children under the age of 5 are underweight
  • 57% of the total population can read and write
  • 46.7% of the population is below the poverty line

ChildCARE Plus in Senegal

ERDO operates ChildCARE Plus in several different communities across Senegal and supports over 180 children through the blessing of sponsorship. The children are able to go to school and many are also involved in vocational training such as carpentry, mechanics and shoe making.

Community Development - Water Projects

With funding from individuals, and Canadian youth participating in the Life campaign, ERDO was able to drill two borewells in 2012 to help serve rural churches and schools with fresh clean water.

Crisis Response

In 2009, ERDO assisted PAOC Global Workers to provide relief to 100 families who were victims of severe flooding.

In times of emergency, relief supplies can include things like:

  • locally accessed and appropriate food relief
  • child safety
  • water
  • shelter
  • sanitation
  • household needs
  • livelihood protection
