  • Infant mortality: 115.08 deaths/1,000 live births
  • Physician density: 0.27 physicians/1,000 population (2009)
  • Major infectious diseases: water-bourne illness, hepatitis A, typhoid fever and malaria
  • 33% of children under the age of 5 are underweight
  • 38% of the total population can read and write
  • 36% of the population is below the poverty line

Food Assistance in Afghanistan

ERDO partnered in food assistance programs in Afghanistan for several years.  In 2007 our programs  addressed the needs of 1,000 internally displaced vulnerable families.  In 2008, the programs served 6,000 beneficiaries.  In 2011, ERDO participated in a Canadian Foodgrains Bank funded "food for work" program in Laghman province.
