Devastation in Colombia

A 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on August 10th, causing widespread damage to over 357 communities and leaving an unfolding humanitarian emergency.

Almost 330 people have been killed and approximately 30,000 homes have been completely destroyed. Over 4,600 people have been injured and thousands more are still reported missing. Communities near the earthquake’s epicentre are facing the greatest challenges, with destruction making it difficult for emergency teams to reach them.

ERDO is responding through our PAOC Global Worker, assessing the needs in impacted communities and bringing emergency food and supplies to families.

How you can help

Delivering Emergency Food Packs & Emergency Care Packs

Our partners in Colombia are responding by delivering two types of Emergency Packs.

Emergency Food Packs contain basics supplies, like rice and one to two proteins, for example beans and eggs. Vegetables are also included, dependent on what is locally available in Colombia. The Food Packs also include prepared meals that our team in country is cooking for families who are living in shelters after their homes have been destroyed.

Emergency Care Packs contain toilet paper, hand soap, detergent, dish sponges and sanitary napkins. These packs include basic toiletries and care for a family’s health and hygiene needs in a moment of vulnerability.
