Earthquake in Myanmar
A 7.7 magnitude earthquake has hit Myanmar, affecting many parts of the country. Though the extent of the damage is still unclear, over 3,000 people have been killed and over 4,700 have been injured. Others are missing and their families are separated.
Infrastructure has been destroyed, limiting people’s access to basic services and affecting their livelihoods. Tremors have also been felt in Thailand and other neighbouring countries, causing destruction to buildings with people reported injured or missing.
Myanmar is currently in the midst of a civil war that has displaced over 3 million people since 2021. A third of the population are already in need of humanitarian assistance. We have been working with local partners in Myanmar, assisting persecuted minorities throughout this conflict, bringing, water and shelter to families in need.
Now, after the earthquake and the emerging crisis situation it has caused, we will respond through local partners. We are currently connecting with our partners and PAOC global workers in both Myanmar and Thailand to assess the damage and the needs of families in the area. Together, we can ensure families in greatest need are reached with immediate assistance.
We know families will be in need of food, water, supplies and shelter. Give today to ensure we can respond quickly to families in crisis.
