Catastrophic Floods in Nepal

On August 26th 2026, flooding in Nepal created enormous landslides that have taken the lives of 1,000 people, injured another 300 and left almost 4,000 people missing. These floods have damaged the livelihoods of families already struggling, destroyed hydropower stations and damaged roads and bridges.

Over 12,375 people are impacted. Many families have lost their homes and are staying in shelters, like schools or tents. Villages are cut off from the rest of the country as roads and bridges are washed out. Floodwater has entered local wells where people collect their clean water — which will increase waterborne illness and disease.

Right now, there is an urgent need for emergency food, sanitation items and shelter.

ERDO is partnering with another Christian organization in Nepal who works hand-in-hand with government officials in the impacted municipalities.

Right now, they are handing out instant food packages to help families in immediate need. These packages include: 2 kg of rice, 0.5 kg of a popular, cooked lentil dish and 1 box of Wai Wait noodles, which is 30 servings.

Our partner is organizing a more substantial 12-day food package for 1,900 people, which will contain:

  • 30 kg of rice
  • 6 kg of pulses, dried legumes
  • 2 L of vegetable oil
  • 1 kg of salt

They will also be bringing sanitary items to 1,500 people, including 2 packages of sanitary pads and handwashing soap.

In the coming day, our partner will also be providing Emergency Shelter packages, containing:

  • 1 tent
  • 1 mosquito net
  • 1 banket
  • 2 metres of foam sheeting for a temporary bed
