Breakfast in Honduras
Over the next three years, we’re bringing healthy snacks — including fruit, smoothies, yogurt and cereal — to almost 400 children!
One of the poorest areas in Honduras is the outskirts of Tegucigalpa, the capital city. Families here live on $5-10 a day, and many parents are unemployed. Poverty is rampant and when children do not have enough to eat, it is a struggle to grow and learn in school.
These communities are also impacted by gangs which entice students away from school with offers of food and money. Few students remain in school long enough to graduate from Grade 9.
You can provide nutritious food to children during after-school programs, and encourage them to remain in school and access a brighter future.
Schools of Hope
Our ChildCARE Plus partner in Honduras is Schools of Hope. Schools of Hope works with vulnerable children to improve their quality of life through education, food and clean water.
Since 2012, Schools of Hope have been feeding 600 children in schools each year.
Last year, we helped Schools of Hope complete a brand-new community centre called Renovation & Hope Centre. This year, Schools of Hope is moving the nutrition program from individual schools throughout Tegucigalpa to the Hope Centre. During tutoring and discipleship classes — available to all sponsored children and kids in the community — Schools of Hope will be distributing snacks and cereal to 395 children aged 5-18 four times a week!
You can also help support the most vulnerable sponsored children and their families with monthly food bags. These food bags will contain ceremil, a nutritious porridge parents can feed their children every day at home. Not only can you bring healthy snacks to hundreds of children in Honduras, you can support those families who are struggling to feed their kids at home.
Together, we can help feed children in Honduras, keep them in school and provide hope for a brighter future!
