Food for the Democratic Republic of Congo

ERDO is providing food to people in the DRC who are suffering through hunger, conflict and illness.

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is facing the world’s largest hunger crisis. The number of severely hungry people went from 13 million in 2019 to 27 million today. The DRC needs immediate assistance today to save lives. The country has faced active conflict for the last 25 years. This year alone, over a hundred people have died due to violence between multiple militia groups.

ERDO is working with the local Pentecostal church denomination in the DRC. Together, we are responding to people’s critical hunger needs with 6 months of emergency food supplies, delivered to 1,180 families in the area. Thanks to a grant by the Government of Canada through Canadian Foodgrains Bank, your donation will be matched 4:1.

Emergency food supplies contain staple local food items. Following the DRC’s food regulation requirements, this food will meet a family’s minimum dietary needs.

Impact of COVID 19

To mitigate the spread of COVID-19, food distributions are taking place in small groupings while using appropriate social distancing measures and personal protective equipment.

These emergency food distributions are carried out in partnership with other programs. In order to create lasting community change, we’re working with the people the local denomination has been ministering to with trauma counselling, safe spaces for children and education programs. Our project in the DRC is providing hope, transforming and healing families. Parents will not have to worry about the struggle to feed their children, as this project will save lives and reduce malnutrition.

Thank you so much for your donation of any amount which will be matched 4:1. Your generosity is saving lives.
