Sudan Crisis | ERDO Skip to main content

Sudan is in a hunger crisis.

Right now, 24.6 million people in Sudan are experiencing extreme hunger. Without intervention, this has the potential to be the largest hunger crisis in recent history. With up to 640,000 people in Sudan already experiencing famine-like conditions and access to food further deteriorating, we need to help suffering men, women and children quickly.

Together, we can prevent the largest hunger crisis in recent history!

Our partner in Sudan will bring four months of emergency food baskets to 2,250 struggling families, or 11,250 people, in North Kordofan, Sudan. Plus, your donation will be matched 8 times today, meaning your gift will stretch so much further!

Now is the time to give. Alongside ERDO and our partners, you can help save lives today.

Fighting famine in a time of conflict.

This month marks two years that Sudan has been in civil war.

Already, 12.5 million people have been forced from their homes, their jobs, and their way of life. 3 million of those have fled Sudan for safer countries. 8.8 million are internally displaced. While they wait to go home, food is in short supply.

Farmers have been forced from their homes and their fields are left unplanted. Very little food has been grown in North Kordofan, one of Sudan’s 18 states located in the centre of Sudan, and now families are living with food shortages and high costs. People have resorted to looting local markets which has further devastated food supplies for families.

Children need food today to live through the conflict.

Our partner in Sudan are bringing 2,250 vulnerable families a monthly food basket for four months which will each contain:

  • 40 kg of sorghum (a drought-resistant grain local to Sudan)
  • 5 kg of lentils
  • 2 L of vegetable cooking oil
  • 1 kg of salt

This emergency food ration will help a family survive extreme hunger. Today, you can provide these desperately-needed food supplies for people in North Kordofan. And, every dollar you donate will be matched 8x to feed even more families.

Give Food Today

Food Basket

We’re bringing emergency life-saving food baskets to families living in North Kordofan, a region in central Sudan that is experiencing famine-like conditions.

2,250 Families

We’ll be supporting 2,250, approximately 11,250 people. A community advisory committee will be created among local leaders volunteering to ensure the food distribution is fair, meaning marginalized people, including widows, women-headed families, and people with disabilities, also receive food.

4 Months

Our partners will bring food to families every month for four months. After that time they will evaluate the program to see where they had success and will determine whether families need another phase of food support.

8:1 Match!

This program will be done in partnership with Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB), allowing ERDO to access funding from the Canadian government to match your donation 8 times. This means that when you feed one child, nine children will receive life-saving food.

Halima feeds her family.

Halima, a 38-year-old mother of five, never imagined she would be the sole provider for her family. Her husband was a farmer in a small village in Kordofan. But, when the war began he was severely injured.

With food prices skyrocketing and no source of income, Halima and her family struggled. Finding food and paying her husband’s medical bills quickly became too much.

With the help of our partner, Halima received sorghum, lentils and cooking oil to make sure her family had nutritious food. She says, “Before I felt helpless. Now, I have hope again. This support has helped us survive and given me the opportunity to rebuild our lives.”

With your support, our partner can begin delivering food baskets to those in need. Through your generosity, you can be connected to the joy of a family eating nutritious food after weeks or months of chronic hunger.

Thank you so much for your prayers, and for contributing what you can to families in Sudan. Your gift of any amount will bring new hope to people in Sudan.
