Crisis in Gaza

We know the situation in Gaza is dire. 90% of families are facing extreme hunger and starvation is a daily reality.

We also know that conflict always takes the biggest toll on those who are already vulnerable, like families living in poverty, people with disabilities, children and widows. Today, conflict in Gaza is creating an enormous humanitarian crisis among vulnerable groups, as lives are lost and innocent families are forced from their homes.

Over 1.9 million people in Gaza have been displaced and are in urgent crisis, needing food, shelter and supplies. As 92% of homes have been damaged or destroyed, families are seeking refuge in makeshift shelters or tents that do not provide adequate protection. Children are particularly impacted by the conflict in Gaza, losing their homes, family members, and access to food and education. Tens of thousands have lost one or both parents and now find themselves unaccompanied in a war zone having to fend for themselves.

Families caught in the crosshairs of conflict have very few options and limited access to food and essential items. While we know the situation between Israel and Gaza is political, access to food and essential items for children and their families should not be.

ERDO is partnering with Shepherd Society, the charitable arm of the Bethlehem Bible College, to bring emergency food, education and trauma care to families in Gaza. Since the start of the conflict, Shepherd Society has been providing medical care, food programs and psychosocial activities to children and families experiencing trauma. Continuing the great work initiated by our partners, this project will bring relief to families taking shelter in churches in the center of Gaza.

Churches where our partners operate are serving as vital hubs of social, spiritual and humanitarian support. They are supporting families taking refuge in their buildings and the surrounding community.

Delivering Food Packages

Ensuring families in need receive regular nutrition, we will be distributing food packages to 300 families, reaching 1,650 individuals.

The project coordinator from Shepherd Society will work with local parish priests to select the most vulnerable families in the area for this monthly food package. These priests will use vulnerability criteria to make sure we are assisting families with the most urgent needs.

This project will prioritize families with children, single mothers and people with disabilities. To prevent gaps in the community and doubling of support, we will be working with families who are not receiving humanitarian aid from other organizations.

Providing Education and Trauma Care

Many schools have been destroyed in the conflict, while others serve as shelters for displaced families. Shepherd Society has set up an emergency schooling initiative that follows the local curriculum, which covers languages, mathematics, sciences, history, geography and other required subjects.

250 children who are currently taking refuge in churches will be engaged in learning through this emergency schooling initiative to ensure they stay up to date on their studies despite the disruptions to their education. An after-school program will also be provided to children, focusing on peace and reconciliation as well as psychosocial support to help them heal from trauma, process their experiences, improve their mental health, and build social cohesion. This project will provide children with access to a safe, healthy, productive and educational environment to spend their time. This safe haven is a place where they can grow and reach their God-given potential.

Your support will help ERDO reach around 1,900 individuals in desperate need. Thank you for providing emergency relief to families struggling in this time of conflict. You are bringing hope, healing, and the love of God to families in difficult circumstances.
